I completed a ceramics degree in the summer of 2006, but my interest in glass first got developed while I was doing a foundation art course at Wimbledon School of Art in 2001-02. I chose to specialise in clay and my tutor encouraged my to give glass a little tryout.

I enjoyed it a lot - I slumped window glass over plaster molds impressed with textures. I also trapped metal items between the glass, like drinks cans and ring pulls, and fish hooks.

When we had to start applying to degree courses, I applied to some ceramics - only courses, but also applied to a glass and ceramics joint course. In the end I decided to focus on ceramics for now as I felt that there was a lot that I had to learn about the possibilities of using clay, but I never abandoned the idea of coming back to glass.

Having had 3 years of ceramics, I've taken the opportunity to explore my other interests of jewellery and glass. I haven't abandoned my ceramic work, and I hopefully will pick up my making again once I get the next show out of the way.

More recently my glass has taken a back seat to some of my bookbinding, although I have managed to incorporate dichroic cabochons into the surface of a leather covered, inlaid journal! I very much enjoy the difference in the disciplines but the rising cost of electricity now means that I may never get onto producing some of my more ambitious glass casting ideas as the firing costs are now becoming prohibitive.
